Mojo Interview on RTA
March 5, 2021
Greeting Commanders! We have a special treat for you today, you may have noticed a glaring omision in the Strikeforce Blog addressing community feedback on the issue that has probably caused the most concern, Real Time Arena. Fortunately for you we have an exclusive interview with Mojo himself on the subject.
Hello Mojo, lately there has been much discussion in the community on the success of RTA, how would you describe the success or failure of RTA?
I'd say it is a huge success, the ratings prove it.
Really? The community seems to consider it a failure?
Let me explain something to you about show business. Ratings are what matters, nothing else. We said this from the very beginning with the arena, it was all about ratings. Screen time is up, and that is important. We even had orbs called "screen time orbs" so I don't see why this is a surprise. But whether they like it or not, the screen time is what matters. Reality TV is not about quality content and professional actors, its about ratings and screen time. But seriously, flip on any reality tv show, the majority are terrible, but the screen time and ratings are there and they make a huge profit. RTA is not Avengers... it's more like... Big Brother, it might be crap but it's on peoples screens so that makes it a success.
What do you say to the fans that where expecting something a little more engaging?
TV stopped being about engaging content a long time ago. Yeah, there is some, but those shows are expensive, hard to produce and one bad move by writers and that is all people talk about. Just look at what happened to shows like Game of Thrones and Lost.
The reality tv model is different. If Honey-boo-boo made a bunch of terrible choice the ratings went up and people watched it more! American Idol its all about not just the best performers but the worst as well. Seriously, a show about "Worst AGT auditions would get as many views as the best ones.
Are there any plans to change RTA?
If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Right now RTA ratings are killing it and profits are sky high.
What would you say you are most proud of in developing RTA?
Usually with reality tv you have to pay the participants, at least a small appearance fee. With RTA we figured out a way to get the participants to pay us to get their prizes for winning!
Thank you for your time Mojo
My pleasure
Scopely - Please understand you have a community that really enjoys this game. Most mobile games would do anything for a community this invested and passionate about their game. Many of us have been playing for more then 2 years. It's helped keep us sane through pandemic lockdowns and let us build alliances that have played together for years.
So when we do things like this it's not because we hate the game, quite the opposite. But we hate seeing it fall into disarray and lose the pieces we enjoyed. We don't need more and more characters that make the ones we love obsolete and add more bugs. We need fun, challenging and engaging content. Not content that is just pay to win. We need to feel progress, not just the grind. We definetly don't need content that is just auto-play and no incentive to even win, nevermind build characters to improve at.
Please, bring back fun. People spend money when they are having fun.
